Essentially, simmer pots are homemade & customizable air fresheners for your home. You can create them by boiling your choice of aromatic herbs, spices and fruits in a pot. Not only are they quick & easy to make but they’re a low-tox option for freshening up the air in your home & creating a cozy vibe. I love them for days when I know I’ll be inside all day cuddled up with a blanket, a good book and one of my favorite cups of tea.
why can’t I just burn a candle?
You definitely can, no judgment here! But how much do you know about that candle? With a simmer pot, your house can small good & you mind can be at ease because you know simmer pots:
- are sustainable
- are free of toxins & artificial scents that can disrupt hormones
- only contain natural ingredients that you choose
- are much safer (especially if you own a crockpot)
- they cost way less than a candle
how it works
Simmer pots are insanely easy to make and take no time at all. There are 2 ways you can make a simmer pot. You can either make them on the stove or you can use a crockpot if you have one.
If you’re using a crockpot, you’ll want to:
- fill it almost all the way to the top with water
- crank it up to high, add your ingredients & put on the lid.
Once you see steam, turn your crockpot down to its lowest setting and remove the lid. You’ll want to refill it anytime it dips below half full. This is a great option for making your simmer pots if you’re worried about forgetting that you left something on the stove.
Now, if you decide to use the stove, you just need to:
- place your pot on the stove & bring the water up to a boil.
- once it’s boiling, add your ingredients and boil for about 3-5 more minutes.
- bring your water back down to a simmer and enjoy the scents!
- add more water as you need it.
That’s it, it’s really that simple!
Now, for the recipes! Of course, these are just guides. Feel free to take out or put in whatever suits your fancy & really make it your own.
